[Segregation-era movie theater poster:] Shore Milford…Frank Sinatra in Meet Danny Wilson…Comfortable Balcony for Colored.

1952 Segregation-era movie theater poster for Frank Sinatra’s film Meet Danny Wilson, co-starring Shelly Winters and Alex Nicol.  A legend at the bottom of the poster reads: “Comfortable Balcony for Colored.”  Sharing the bill with Sinatra’s new musical drama (which featured his duet with Winters, A Good Man is Hard to Find) were two films from 1951: the comedy Let’s Make It Legal, starring Claudette Colbert, Macdonald Carey, and Zachary Scott, and the film noir re-make of Fritz Lang’s 1931classic M, starring David Wayne.  The Shore Theatre opened in 1946 in Milford, Delaware, in that city’s renovated 19th century Armory Hall.
