Observations on Yellow Fever by Philadelphia surgeon and dentist Anthony Plantou, addressed to the “Board of Health of the city of New-York.” Plantou draws on his extensive experience of the viral disease in the French Caribbean colonies of Guadaloupe and Martinique.

He discusses the six remedies “actually employed at the present time in yellow fever”: bleeding; emetics, purging by calomel and jalap, mercury, “The Bark” [“cinchona” (quinine)], and opium. A concluding section presents “Remarks on Caloric and Cold, as Connected with Electricity and Magnetism” including a brief mention of Isaac Newton, Galileo, and Benjamin Franklin.
