A study of late 19th and early 20th century Ethiopia and its relations with the English, French, and Italian colonizers of East Africa. The monograph contains much on diplomacy, military conflicts, and boundary questions and is well-illustrated with maps.

Author Frank Ernest Work (1877–1957) “...did overseas work as a YMCA secretary with the Italian Army during WWI. He served as principal, teacher and superintendent in Indiana, PA schools; was professor of European history and registrar at Muskingum College, New Concord, OH 1922-46. In 1930, he was granted a 2 year leave of absence to assist in the establishment of a public school system for Ethiopia, where he wrote the 1st draft of the country’s constitution. This document was approved in 1932. He was tutor for a time to the son and heir of Haile Selassie.”¹
