Rare statistical study, limited to 50 copies, of Philadelphia public school buildings from 1745 to 1845. The architectural data was compiled from the files of the city’s Superintendent of Buildings and the Board of Controllers of the Public Schools.

Where it was was available, data for each of the over 90 schools is given including its location, ownership history of the land, building contract or lot purchase dates, price (including cost per class room and cost per cubic foot, heating provisions, and number of classrooms. Most of the entries include a section of Remarks providing additional data and historical information.  For each school, there is a hand-colored diagram or plat map showing the street locations and dimensions of each school lot.

A remarkable trove of architectural data, maps, and historical information on colonial and early Republic Philadelphia schools.
