An interesting comprehensive collection of seventy items of vacation travel brochures, maps, guidebooks, menus, and related ephemera; all kept by a family of four traveling in Hawaii and on their sail home back to the continental United States.

The archive is a veritable “snapshot” of tourist life in 1969 Hawaii beginning with the family’s complete travel itinerary while in Hawaii.

Next are found resort brochures to such hotels as The Waikikian, the Halekulani, and the Mauna Kea Beach-Hotel. There are tourist maps of Maui including a sightseeing map, a map of the grounds of the Coco Palms resort hotel on Kauai, a gas station road map of Hawaii, and even a map of Hawaii Volcanoe’s National Park printed on a napkin. Also found is a souvenir booklet from the Mormon-sponsored Polynesian Cultural Center entitled Polynesia in A Day! by David W. Cummings.

Additionally, there are museum brochures, various tourist guide books, cruise-line brochures, a Hawaiian Airlines timetable, a combination car rental/bus tour/fishing charter brochure, a ship deck plan, and a Hawaiian song booklet. Ephemeral items include a few souvenir postcards, cocktail menus, cocktail napkins, samples of stationery from various hotels, cruise ship daily newsletters from the Matson Lines S.S. Lurline, various shipboard menus, and even Hawaiian Airlines luggage tags.
