[1952 Lionel Train Catalog].
“Men of Tomorrow choose Lionel Today”
Colorful trade catalog for Lionel trains issued by The Lionel Corporation, makers of the iconic American children’s toy railroad system.
Highlights of this post-WWII catalog include the “O27” gauge “Express Freights,” “Hot Shots!,” and diesel locomotives and freight cars; “O” gauge freights; “Lionel Triple Unit Diesels;” and the “New Lionel Super Speedliner.” The latter two featured Lionel’s extremely popular Santa Fe Railroad cars manufactured by the company for almost 20 years.
Also featured were the company’s line of “New, Realistic Lionel Accessories”—signal bridge, switch tower, station platform, and operating barrel loader and freight station.
Whole railroad systems or toy train sets show locomotives, coal tenders, freight and passengers cars, rolling stock, specialty cars and cabooses. Train tracks and suggested train layouts are also shown.
Perhaps mirroring post-World War II automobile traveling habits, the catalog offered roadside billboards with changeable cardboard color inserts advertising popular products such as Plymouth automobiles, DuPont “Zerex” anti-freeze, General Tires, Sunoco High-Test gasoline, and a tourist ad for Silver Springs, Florida.
