“Jubilee Year”—Fiftieth anniversary history of the United States’ first degree-granting historically black university

Scarce fiftieth anniversary history of Lincoln University written by Prof. John Ballard Rendall who later served as its president from 1906 to 1924. Rendall was the nephew of 40-year university president, Isaac Norton Rendall. “He rounded out a ‘Rendall Administration’ from 1865 to 1924; ‘60 years save one—which witnessed the growth of the institution from a primitive beginning to a full grown college of recognized rank.’”¹

A complete outline of the school’s history from its founding as the Ashmun Institute through the post-Civil War years. It includes sections on its benefactors, trustees, and faculty. With portrait illustrations—including the 1904 faculty, vignettes of campus buildings, and wonderful before-and-after graduation photos of four students from Africa.
