C. 1910s menus from Madison, Wisconsin confectioners Boyd & Fichten. The menu includes soda fountain treats such as ice cream, sundaes, variously flavored sodas, lemonades, parfaits, and frappes (milkshakes). Ice cream specials were available too and this particular menu has two additional specials added in pencil: “Crispe Fudge Almond” and “Crispe Fudge Pecan,” both premiumly priced at 20¢. A full luncheon menu—eggs, soups, sandwiches, salads, etc.—was also available, plus desserts. Ice cream specials bear such names as the “Varsity,” “Cherry Swim,” “Tennis Nut,” “Cupid’s Delight,” “Co-Ed Special,” and “Candy Shop Special,” all, without doubt, popular with the high school and college-age crowd.
