Humphreys’ Manual for the Administration of Medicine and Treatment of Disease.
Directory of diseases and medical conditions, all curable with Humphreys’ patent medicines
Patent medicine trade catalog comprising an exhaustive list of diseases and medical conditions, including their symptoms, all curable with tablets, pellets, liquids etc. manufactured by Humphreys’ Homeopathic Medicine Co. Founded in 1853, Humphreys’ company sold homeopathic remedies called “specifics” and introduced single-dose “combinations,” thus allowing every person to self-diagnose and prescribe.
Humphreys’ “...achievements included being Chairman of the American Institute of Homoeopathy’s ‘Bureau for the Augmentation and Improvement of the Materia Medica’ of the American Institute of Homoeopathy. During this time he also helped to establish what came to be known as The New York State Homoeopathic Medical Society.”¹
The catalog includes numerous advertisements as well as an extended section of veterinary remedies. A printed ad on the back cover states that Humphreys’ products were for sale by druggist Fred Benthen of Saginaw, Michigan.
