The Poets and Poetry of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
A stunning copy
Johnston’s collection is notable for not only the poems he has gathered, but the thumbnail sketches of the author’s within. Authors of both gender are well-represented.
Description: The Poets and Poetry of Chester County, Pennsylvania.
Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott, 1890. 8vo., 295pp., all edges gilt. First Edition. Publisher’s decorated and gilt-lettered cloth. Double frontispiece portraits of T. Buchanan Read and Bayard Taylor; the later plate with a soft former vertical crease line. This flaw aside, a spectacular copy of a book almost always found worn with a neatly inked 1890 gift inscription.
