An author’s interpretation of Abraham Lincoln

William Passmore Picken was a Cornell graduate and a New York City lawyer. See pp134–137 of Volume 10 of The Booker T. Washington Papers: “In his book The Negro Problem. Abraham Lincoln’s Solution (1909) Pickett argued that blacks could never be assimilated into American society and that colonization of American blacks in Liberia, Haiti, or the Panama Canal Zone was the only solution to the race problem.”

Monaghan: “A book discussing the racial problem, with one chapter on Lincoln’s attitude toward Negro equality.”
