Scarce to commerce, a questionable history of bison in Pennsylvania; those who hunted and killed them, those who hunted buffalo in the American West. The last ten pages are devoted to the life and buffalo hunting of Daniel Ott who describes his hunts and of being chided by various native American tribes for the wastefulness of the white men who slaughtered the buffalo. The pamphlet is dedicated to Dr. W.T. Hornaday, an early American conservationist and steward of the land. The legitimacy of Shoemaker’s account has been called into question. The work is now regarded as pure fiction, a tall tale.
