Ezra Meeker, Grand Old Man of the Northwest

OCLC records a fair amount of material from this historical preservationist society, but this modest item appears unlisted. The text, in small type, lists the Articles of Incorporations and designates Ezra Meeker as President.

As a youth Ezra Manning Meeker (1830–1928) traveled the Oregon Trail by ox-drawn wagon, emigrating from Iowa to the Pacific Coast.

Later in life, Meeker would repeatedly re-trace the journey from his early pioneer days. Meeker’s journeys served to commemorate the establishment of the Pacific Northwest, to memorialize the Oregon Territory —which would eventually be relinquished by Great Britain— and to remember those who settled the land leading to Oregon’s eventual admission as a State into the Union.
