[1928 Woodcut Bookplate by J.J. Lankes for the Library of William Sloane Kinney.]
Bookplate of William Sloane Kinney designed and executed by noted illustrator, woodcut artist, and bookplate designer J.J. Lankes (1884–1960).
The bookplate depicts a colossal man standing upon the earth, towering above the clouds and resting pensively upon a crescent moon. It’s clean design is reminiscent of the style of another bookplate designer of the era, Rockwell Kent. Lankes’ bookplate designs were examined in book collector William Macey Stone’s monograph Lankes, His Woodcut Bookplates (1922).
