1910s Electrotyper’s specimen book of illustration cuts
Electrotyper’s specimen book of thousands of stock illustration cuts suitable for all manner of commercial and job printing.
Illustration cuts available from The Commercial Cut Company include fraternal & society emblems; floral designs; household goods; watches and jewelry; men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, furniture; carriages and automobiles; hardware; sporting goods; musical instruments; patriotic symbols and flags; architecture; transportation; medical and dental goods; animals and nature; religious symbols; letterheads and labels, etc. etc. There is even a “Bull Moose” political ballot cut. With index.
The specimen book is accompanied by a 1926 two-page Typed Letter Signed by Frances (possibly Francis?) Ferster of The Commercial Cut Company describing charges “for making a Wax Plate” and prices for “electros.”
The company’s letterhead describes their business as electrotypers and photo-engravers, makers of half-tones, and dealers in printing machines and supplies: “50,000 Trade and Advertising Cuts a Specialty Always in Stock.” Printing Trades Blue Book (New York, 1918) lists a David Ferster as proprietor and adds that they were also “dealers in second-hand type and machinery.”
In all, an excellent visual record of commercial and job printing illustration cuts available circa the 1910s to 1920s in America.
