Baltimore Celebrates its 200th Birthday in 1929
Promotional leaflet from 1929 with an uplifting graphic showing a sailing ship plowing the waves; three planes soar overhead. The city skyline is in the background.
Contents within are beneath a masthead for “The Trolley News” and details of a program of events to celebrate Baltimore’s 200th Birthday are presented in sequence. At Fort McHenry their would be fire works and a water pageant. A Fraternal Parade and an Automobile Parade had to squeeze into the schedule along with The Military Parade. Other events are listed.
The United Railway and Electric Co. used the celebration as a means to promote their own business. The final lines discreetly state: “The parade routes are easily accessible by street car from any portion of Baltimore.”
