1830 Autograph Letter Signed by Reverend J.C. Brigham to Stephen Van Rensselaer, American Bible Society President.

An 1830 letter to American Bible Society President, Stephen Van Rensselaer

Reverend J.C. Brigham (1794-1862), the letter’s author, served as Corresponding Secretary of the American Bible Society from 1827-1862. Here he writes to Stephen Van Rensselaer, American Bible Society President, about upcoming celebrations for the Society’s anniversary. Brigham notes that Bushrod Washington, a Society voice-president, “has been removed by death” but believes the other vice-presidents are alive and well. Brigham cautions their attendance might be prevented due to geographical distance, age, and infirmaries. Brigham adds there is happier news; circulation of Bibles is up. Bibles and Testaments distributed has been greatest than in any year previous. Brigham further solicits Rensselaer to attend annual celebration.
