1818 Salem Library Company of New Jersey Share Redemption.
A manuscript artifact from an early New Jersey library
The Salem Library Company of Salem, New Jersey was founded in 1804. This manuscript document certifies that “...Josiah Miller has redeemed his share in the Salem Library Comp + the Librarian will govern himself accordingly.” The document is signed by library managers Hedge Thompson, one Benjamin A[______?], and Jedidiah Allen. Hedge Thompson (1780-1828), doctor, judge, politician, served as a Representative from New Jersey for one year in Congress from 1827 until his death.
