Sumner invites Rev. Isaac Stone of Douglas and his wife to visit

Brief letter written in the Fall of 1788 by Rev. Joseph Sumner, minister of the First Congregational Church in Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Rev. Sumner served that church for over 62 years.¹

Sumner here writes to Rev. Isaac Stone of Douglas, Worcester County. He discusses arrangements to exchange pulpits with other ministers in Worcester County and proposes that Stone and his wife come for a visit:

The sabbath after next I have agreed upon an exchange with Mr. [Thomas] Crafts of Princeton. The sabbath after that I am under some obligation to exchange with Mr. [Peter] Whitney of Northborough. The next after that which will be the second in Nov[embe]r I shall need to be at home; after that the season will be so far advanced, that I should rather not be under ingagements [sic] to go so far…

Sumner concludes with his invitation to Rev. & Mrs. Stone: “...if you should come over to Shrewsbury…and it should be so that I can serve you, I trust I shall not want [lack] a disposition; from your affectionate friend Br. J. Sumner”
