A woman autograph collector seeks an autograph from General McClellan’s widow

General George B. McClellan’s widow, Ellen Mary Marcy McClellan (1836–1915), writes on mourning stationary paper that she has no autographs of her famous husband to put in the autograph book for a Ms. Custis. She does have a cut signature of her husband which is from a check the general had signed. Signed in full Ellen M. McClellan.  A rare autograph to find during this period of the still-mourning wife and widow of this most famous American Civil War general. George B. Mclellan died in 1885.
