Pocket Map of Pennsylvania Compliments of the Wolf Co., Chambersburg, Pa [cover title].
Rare 1890s color pocket map; published and printed in Chicago
Chambersburg, Pennsylvania was home to the Wolf Co., manufacturers and dealers of machinery for flouring mills and mill and engine supplies.
Here, is a likely company giveaway, a Pennsylvania state pocket map and adverts touting the Wolf Company’s products as well. On the front cover one sees their impressive factory. The rear shows their patented “Gyrator—”
“Universally Conceded the Greatest Invention of Modern Times ... Among the many of the wonderful inventions of the Nineteenth Century few are destined to leave such an indelible impression or exercise such unmistakable influence as the ‘Gyrator.’”
Remarkable, such advertising language could sally forth with such unabated modestly, but around-the-world-in-three-seconds-and-back-again electronically-shared consumer derision had yet to be invented.
The entire production, map and all, were the paid efforts of the Chicago’s The Jno. F. Waite Pub. Co. Engravers and Publishers. Their information displays notably under the map’s basic title.
