[Stage Actress and Singer Pauline Hall Cabinet Card Photograph].
A Mexican cowgirl
Beautiful portrait of comic actress and light opera singer Pauline Hall (1860–1919), here photographed by New York celebrity photographer, José Maria Mora (1850–1926).¹ Hall is shown wearing the fancy costume of what appears to be a Mexican cowgirl—a vaquera, likely for a stage role.
Pauline Hall was born Pauline Fredrika Schmidgall. After appearing on Broadway over 800 times, she became a household name and toured throughout the United States acting for such noted theatrical producers as Florenz Ziegfeld and David Belasco. Hall later entered vaudeville. This image may be unknown. It is identified in pencil to the verso “Pauline Hall 7470 4.”
