Original ink, wash, and pencil drawing of Yale College and the old Connecticut Capitol in New Haven
Original ink, wash, and pencil drawing of Yale College and the old Connecticut Capitol. The scene was drawn from the perspective of Chapel and College Streets in New Haven and shows the old neoclassical capitol designed by Ithiel Town in 1827.
The rather accomplished drawing is signed by artist S. F. C. King who depicts these New Haven landmarks from a popular vantage point. The artist’s depiction is similar to New York neoclassical architect Alexander Jackson Davis’ 1834 engraved view published in the second, enlarged edition of John H. Hinton’s History and Topography of the United States. Davis was a partner of Ithiel Town.
