Biography of this famed Massachusetts abolitionist written by Archibald Grimké, civil rights leader, high-level officer in the NAACP, and a noted lawyer, among many other accomplishments. The son of a white lawyer and a female slave, Nancy Weston, Grimké born on a plantation near Charleston, South Carolina. The DANB extensively profiles Grimké‘s life. The present work was authored by Grimké in 1891 and was part of a larger series entitled “American Reformers” edited by Carlos Martyn.
